Van Gogh’s Starry Night Over the Rhone Puzzle – 1000 Pieces

The puzzle “Starry Night Over the Rhone” by Van Gogh represents one of the most famous and well-known paintings of modern art. Indeed, Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” was created in 1888 and has since enjoyed ever-increasing success, becoming an emblem and a symbol.
This painting is a true icon of post- impressionist painting despite the fact that this work depicts a simple night landscape of the town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence .

Van Gogh, speaking about the period of the late 1890s, said of himself in 1888:

With a painting I would like to express something as moving as music. I would like to paint men and women with an eternal quality, which the halo once symbolized, and which we try to convey with the same radiance, with the vibration of colors […]. Ah, the portrait, the portrait that shows the thoughts, the soul of the sitter: this is what I believe should be seen.

In this painting Van Gogh decides to create a direct contact with reality , painting what could be seen from the window of his room in the asylum of Saint-Rémy .

However, Van Gogh decided not to faithfully reproduce what his eyes saw, as happened with his Impressionist colleagues, but rather chose to manipulate it and transform it into plastic means.

Through the process of internalizing the work, Van Gogh transforms the blank canvas into a powerful representation of his emotions. Starry Night Over the Rhone, therefore, does not offer the viewer a faithful image of reality, but rather a form of “expression” of it.
