Claude Monet (1840–1926) painted Impression, Sunrise in 1872. The Musée Marmottan Monet associates it with a stay in Le Havre around November, viewing the outer harbour from the Hôtel de l’Amirauté.
The original oil on canvas measures 50 × 65 cm, separately from the puzzle’s 70 × 50 cm format. Dark boats emerge from water while port structures dissolve into mist. The orange sun returns in reflections, capturing changing light rather than describing every detail precisely.
The title Impression, Sunrise is associated with the name of Impressionism. The Musée Marmottan Monet describes its place in the group’s painting. A modern harbour becomes a field for observing light.
Compare the clear foreground boat with distant forms blending into sky and water. Atmosphere connects them and gives an everyday view its immediate sensation.
Short strokes, horizontal water marks and open contours are visible in reproduction. Blue, green and grey create a changing surface crossed by the orange reflection.
Compare dark boat marks with lighter harbour strokes. Some define silhouettes; others suggest moving water or forms emerging from mist. These varied touches let you read both the view and the painter’s gestures.
Start with the sun, reflection and boats as recognisable references. Then compare sky and water through shades, mark direction and dark details.
Use the included reference sheet for misty areas. Notice which colour transition each piece completes. Once finished, follow the distance from boats to harbour across the horizontal picture.
