Hokusai’s Art is Grafika’s edition title for three scenes placed side by side: people beside water, a rider in snow and a man carrying bundles across a bridge.
The central image is Poet on a Journey in the Snow from the series devoted to Chinese and Japanese poetry, dated about 1833 by the Fitzwilliam Museum. Compare each scene first, noticing recurring water, routes and broad sky alongside changing movement and atmosphere.
Hokusai (1760–1849) made paintings, prints and book illustrations ranging from figures to landscapes. In Edo-period ukiyo-e, drawing organises both broad spaces and narrative details.
The snowy rider is not named on the print. The Fitzwilliam Museum discusses different suggested identities, so “travelling poet” preserves that uncertainty. Observe the relationship between figure, journey and winter landscape.
At right, the gatherer carries two bundles over an arched bridge. Tokusa-gari, known as The Rush Gatherer, belongs to A Mirror of Chinese and Japanese Poetry; the Suntory Museum of Art catalogue dates it around 1833–1834.
A crescent at left and luminous disc at right offer contrasting accents. Snow on the central branches and ground interrupts blue with white outlines. The edition compares separate scenes rather than a continuous landscape.
Hokusai’s colour prints used carved woodblocks for outlines and colours. The British Museum documents this process and collaboration between artist, carver, printer and publisher. The puzzle reproduces the visual result in a selection of images.
Compare the upright snowy tree, curved bridge and horizontal water. Pale dividing bands separate working areas, while repeated blues require closer detail comparison. The box contains one 1,000-piece puzzle combining all three images.
