• Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden

The Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden, or Old Masters Picture Gallery, is one of the most prestigious art museums in Europe.
The gallery houses over 2,000 works, including engravings and Renaissance, Baroque and Flemish paintings.
The Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden boasts an extraordinary collection of Italian, Flemish and Dutch masterpieces, displayed against backgrounds that emphasize the different artistic schools: red for Italian works and green for northern ones.

  • The Sistine Madonna

Founded as a collection by the Electors of Saxony, it saw its exponential growth in the 18th century thanks to Frederick Augustus I and his son Frederick Augustus II. Among the most significant acquisitions is the famous Sistine Madonna by Raphael, one of the most visited and beloved paintings in the gallery.

Later, severely damaged during the bombings of the Second World War, the museum was rebuilt and restored, returning to the public the masterpieces that today make the Gemäldegalerie an unmissable destination for art lovers.

Among the artists featured are Raphael, Giorgione, Rembrandt, Velázquez, Cranach, Dürer, Mantegna and many others, making the visit an extraordinary immersion in the history of European art.
