• São Paulo Museum of Art: artistic treasure of South America

The São Paulo Museum of Art, also known by the acronym MASP, houses the most prestigious art collection in all of South America, with masterpieces ranging from the 15th to the 19th century.

Founded in 1947, the museum benefited from the artistic direction of the Italian Pietro Maria Bardi.
In fact, the building itself represents an architectural icon of the city and constitutes one of the most important cultural centers in the country.

Today, MASP boasts over 10,000 works that include masterpieces by internationally renowned artists. In particular, we mention Van Gogh, Cézanne, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Manet and Renoir.

  • The art of Modigliani in the São Paulo Museum of Art

The São Paulo Museum of Art houses important works by Amedeo Modigliani, including the “Portrait of Diego Rivera” from 1914 and the famous “Portrait of Mrs. Van Muyden” from 1917.
The latter perfectly represents the unmistakable style of the Livorno artist, with his refined geometric research and the subversion of traditional proportions.

From his art derive the iconic female figures with their long and slender necks and often absent gaze, inaugurating a revolutionary way of interpreting the female figure.

For this reason, Modigliani became one of the most distinctive and recognizable artists of the twentieth century.
