• History of the Palatine Gallery

The Palatine Gallery is a splendid museum housed in the historic Palazzo Pitti and is part of the Uffizi Gallery.

It was the Lorena family who established this magnificent gallery between the late 18th and early 19th centuries, placing around 500 masterpieces in the halls, selected from the many works that were part of the Medici Renaissance collection.

Visitors today can admire the greatest works by the best artists of that period: from Titian to Caravaggio, from Tintoretto to Rubens.
The paintings completely cover the walls of the gallery, enriched by other masterpieces such as vases and sculptures, which contribute to the atmosphere of charm and opulence.

  • Works of the Palatine Gallery

One of the most famous works in the Palatine Gallery is Judith with the Head of Holofernes, by the Florentine painter Cristofano Allori.

Another notable painting is Saint Mary Magdalene by Titian, a work that blends the sacred and the profane, showing the woman’s penitence combined with a provocative erotic charm.

Special mention goes to the painting The Madonna of the Chair by Raphael.
In fact, our puzzle pays tribute to this masterpiece of the Palatine Gallery, dating between 1513 and 1514.
The work depicts the Madonna holding the Infant Jesus.
The attention to detail is astonishing: from the golden fringes on the chair’s backrest that seem to sparkle to the combination of warm and cool colors along the edges.
