Musée d'Orsay, Paris

The current Musée d’Orsay in Paris was born from the radical renovation of the old Gare d’Orsay, one of the most important Parisian train stations. Victor Laloux built the station in 1900, creating a futuristic structure in steel, cast iron, and glass, according to the most modern technologies of the time.
Despite the innovative design, the station had a short operational life. By the 1970s, the enormous structure lay in complete abandonment and risked demolition, prompting authorities to consider possible reuse alternatives.

In 1979, the first international competition for the renovation was launched.

The final result of the museum project, while appearing perfectly functional and independent from Laloux’s architectural container, harmonizes with it by fully exploiting, even if in a different way, all its potential.

Today, the Musée d’Orsay Paris is famous for the numerous masterpieces of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism displayed inside.
The collection features artworks created between 1848 and 1914.
