• Kunsthistorisches Museum

The Kunsthistorisches Museum, “Museum of Art History”, was born from the decision of Emperor Franz Joseph of Habsburg to house the imperial collections and preserves an enormous artistic heritage. In fact, across its various locations and numerous rooms, objects created over a span of 5 millennia are exhibited, from the Egyptian era, through ancient Greece, up to the end of the 18th century.

The first stone was laid, without much ceremony, on November 27, 1871, and it was opened to the public in 1891.
The façades recall the Italian Renaissance style and the interiors are decorated with marble, gold ornaments, and paintings.
Today it is one of the most important and richest museums in the world.
