• The History of the Centre national d’art et de culture Georges Pompidou in Paris

The Centre national d’art et de culture Georges Pompidou was born from the vision of Georges Pompidou, President of the French Republic from 1969 to 1974.

In those years, the French president wanted to create in the heart of Paris a cultural institution embracing multidisciplinarity, entirely dedicated to modern art.
Furthermore, he decided to complement the museum of modern art with a large public library, a design museum, and musical, cinematic, and audiovisual activities.

  • The Works of the Pompidou Center

Today, the Pompidou Center is one of the most visited museums in the world and houses a collection of approximately 70,000 works.
Among its pieces, in addition to visual arts, are included design, architecture, photography, and multimedia works.

Alongside the Louvre Museum, dedicated to arts and cultures from ancient times to the first half of the 19th century, and the Musée d’Orsay, dedicated to art from 1848 to 1914, this museum completes the entire journey of art in the French capital.

The collection contains about 70,000 works of modern and contemporary art. Among the most important works, one can admire pieces by Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Vasily Kandinsky.
