Puzzle Frida: a life between art and illness
Frida was born in 1907 at the Casa Azul de Coyoacán, a suburb of Mexico City.
In her stories, however, she liked to claim she was born in 1910, the year of the Mexican Revolution. A revolution that in her works becomes color: red is the shade that appears most often in her paintings; a hymn to joy and life, elements also characterizing her last work “Viva la vida“, a still life composed of watermelons dominated by bright red.
A hymn to life that for Frida Kahlo also becomes suffering and pain.
Affected by spina bifida from birth, at the age of 17 she was involved in a terrible bus accident.
